NOAA CHART NEW EDITIONS, THEIR AVAILABILITY,
AND MARINER RESPONSIBILITY
NOAA recognizes two products as official NOAA paper nautical charts.  They are:

1) the Charts-on-Demand Chart distributed by OceanGrafix using print-on-demand technology.  (www.OceanGrafix.com), and
2) the Traditional Chart distributed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and NIMA.

NOAA Dates of Latest Edition for both are listed at http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/mcd/dole.htm

New Editions are first available through OceanGrafix.  When NOAA clears a New Edition for sale OceanGrafix distributes the next day.  Six to eight weeks later FAA distributes the Traditional Chart.  Each should be put into service immediately.  Each is official and meets Federal chart carriage requirements immediately upon its release to the public.

Subsequent to purchase the mariner is responsible for chart correction.  The last Notice applied by NOAA to the Charts-on- Demand Chart is listed at the chart lower left under “Additional Corrections Through: NGA Notice / Local Notice”.  The last Notice applied by NOAA to the Traditional Chart is listed at the chart lower left corner as “Corrected through NM” and “Corrected through LNM”.

Please note, the New Edition Print Date is the month and year in which the Traditional Chart is scheduled to be printed.  It is not the date of the last Notice to Mariners applied by NOAA.
